This past summer I had the opportunity to intern an General Atomics- Electromagnetic Systems for the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) department. My position was Software Test Intern working on the Launch and Recovery Program. Being a Mechanical Engineer in Software Test was a bit challenging because I had to become aware of certain things that my Mechanical career had not introduced me to. My task there was making sure the customer's requirements were being satisfied by creating test procedures and applying the software inputs and assuring the hardware outputs matched. My primary focus on my internship however was 3D modeling with Creo Parametric 3.0 and model it in CAD. The courses I took at SDSU helped a lot, but working with machinist and other engineers gave me a different outlook from manufacturing and supplier perspectives. In the general intern program we went on tours of other facilities, like Aeronautical Systems and Mission Systems and the National Fusion Laboratory. We got to see projects not yet released to the public and proposals against other companies. I had a great summer and would 10/10 times recommend being a part of SHPE, with the networking opportunities I was able to apply for an internship at General Atomics. I'm lucky to have gotten this opportunity during summer and now year round!
